In Part 3 of The Creed Series, nine words were the focus of today’s message: “And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, Our Lord”

To explain who Jesus was and why he lived among us, Pastor Roscoe first examined the meaning of the name Jesus Christ. The name Jesus means The Lord is Salvation. Mary was told to give this name to her baby because he would save people from their sins. Christ means The Anointed One or The Messiah. When Jesus was asked by the high priest if he was the Son of God, he answered “Yes”, which was considered by the crowds blasphemy and worthy of death.

Next, we looked at the meaning of the phrase “God’s only Son”. Our pastor examines Bible verses that prove that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus not only forgave sins but by calling God his own Father, he made himself equal and one with God.

The last part of the sentence “Our Lord” tells us that Jesus is Lord and that we should confess this with our mouth. Pastor Roscoe encourages us to do this now because all people, both living and dead, believers and non-believers, will confess that Jesus is Lord when we stand in judgment before Him. We are urged to release control of our lives to our Lord.

In Part 2 of The Creed Series, Father’s Day took on a special meaning as Pastor Roscoe examined the Core Belief in the Apostle’s Creed “I believe in God, The Father Almighty, The Creator of Heaven and Earth” As humans, we tend to associate our own experiences to the word “Father”. If those experiences are painful, we could turn away from God The Father. We may think that God is unreasonable, unavailable or unable to be pleased simply because that’s how our own parents were. Jesus came to clear up misconceptions that we may have concerning God. Pastor Roscoe gave us four characteristics of what type of Father God is. God is a Caring Father who knows everything about us and who cares about all aspects of our lives. God is a Consistent Father who is dependable and trustworthy. God is a Close Father who is available and with us whenever we need him. God is a Competent Father who can handle any problems that we have. We can become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Pastor Roscoe encouraged all Fathers to do the greatest thing they could do for their children and introduce them to Jesus Christ.

In Part 1 of The Creed Series, Pastor Roscoe introduced us to the Apostle’s Creed, a document of fundamental core beliefs that all Christians adhere to and live by.

I BELIEVE IN GOD, THE FATHER ALMIGHTY, THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, AND IN JESUS CHRIST, HIS ONLY SON, OUR LORD: WHO WAS CONCEIVED OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY, SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE, WAS CRUCIFIED, DIED, AND WAS BURIED. HE DESCENDED INTO HELL. THE THIRD DAY HE ROSE AGAIN FROM THE DEAD. HE ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN, AND SITS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD THE FATHER ALMIGHTY, FROM THENCE HE SHALL COME TO JUDGE THE LIVING AND THE DEAD. I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE HOLY CATHOLIC (universal)CHURCH, THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY, AND LIFE EVERLASTING. AMEN.

Pastor Roscoe asks us to examine our own lives to see if our behavior matches up to our beliefs. Since our beliefs affect our behavior and what we become, we need to decide what we’re going to believe about Jesus. He gave us four questions to test ourselves.

What do I believe? When we understand what we believe and why we believe it, we can whether storms and still be at peace because Jesus is with us.

On what are my beliefs based? Give yourself regular checkups on what you believe and why you believe in those things. If you don’t understand and have firm beliefs, you will be aimless.

Does my behavior match my beliefs? The Bible encourages us to stand strong and be courageous in our convictions.

How will I live out my beliefs? Realign your behavior to match your beliefs. Show your faith by your actions and deeds. Serve others and be good neighbors.
