After being nominated for “Pastor Wakeup” by Betty Cross, the Lilly household was awakened bright and early on Thursday morning by the crew from Pulse 96.7. At approximately 6:20am Pastor Roscoe and his family woke to the sound of a whistle, followed by the sound of a woman’s voice singing/shouting “Rise and Shine” through a megaphone.

After a brief interview, the Lilly’s received donuts, coffee, t-shirts and mugs. In case you missed it, check it out on the link below!

What an awesome way to wake up!

As our NorthStar family continues to grow it’s hard to remember everyone’s birthdays! Therefore, we thought we’d give you a little reminder by posting birthdays at the beginning of each month (although we’re at the end of May). Apologies to members we missed at the beginning of the month including Oko Joyce, Tara Hammitt, and John Joyce.

Upcoming birthdays include:

William Lyng, May 18
Toni Lyng, May 20
Grantley McLeod, May 21
Paula Glogowski, May 27

This Sunday we’ll hear part three of our current series, Experience Your Faith. In part one of the series, Pastor Roscoe briefly took the stage to discuss different ways to experience and participate in our faith through singing. We looked at three reasons why we sing. We sing to show how thankful we are for God’s goodness and for our salvation. As well, we sing to help us refocus. In praising God through song we change our focus to who and what is important. Instead of focusing on our problems and allowing those problems to completely consume us, we’re able to refocus through song. Lastly, we sing to prepare us for God’s truth. In singing, our hearts are softened and our busy minds are quieted and ready to hear what God has to say to us. Led by Aaron Hammitt and Maryanna Lilly, the NorthStar band took the stage for the remainder of service and helped us to “raise the roof for God!”

In part two of Experience Your Faith, we looked at how to experience our faith through serving. In his sermon Pastor Roscoe used the acronym SALT as an example of how to serve like Jesus. We are to SEE people as Jesus saw them, ACCEPT people as Jesus accepted them, LOVE people as Jesus loved them and TOUCH people as Jesus touched them. When we can see, accept and love others the way Jesus does, only then will we be able to recognize a need and touch others through our service.

“Come, let’s shout praises to God, raise the roof for the Rock who saved us! Let’s march into his presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns!”
